What is the basic insulation recommended for a new homes?
Answer:
We recommend that you install insulation batts in the ceiling, wall wrap and potentially wall
batts in the western facing wall (hottest in summer). In addition, 1 – 2 whirlybirds are recommended.
The Queensland government has introduced a mandatory 6 Star Energy Rating system and the level of insulation required depends on many factors including orientation, location, colours, etc. Visit the Queensland Government site for further information.
Question:
What options do I have for insulating my existing home?
Answer:
We can easily install ceiling batts in the ceiling and discuss whirlybird options. If you are renovating and replacing walls, there are options for wall wrap and wall batts also.
Question:
Will insulating my home reduce my energy costs?
Answer:
Rather than answer that question ourselves, here is a quote from www.climatesmart.qld.gov.au/your_home/building.insulation.html. "The higher the R-value, the higher the level of insulation. For example, an R-Rating of R2.5 can reduce your home energy bills by up to 50 per cent”

Are there any government regulations on minimum levels of insulation?
Answer:

In NSW, regulations are in place making a system rating of R2.5 mandatory in new homes.
If you are selling your home in Queensland you must complete a Sustainability Declaration. Currently this is self assessing, but it is proposed from late 2011 that this will need to be completed by a certified assessor and the home will need to reach a specific star rating.

What is an “R-value”?
Answer:
The level of insulation is measured by the R-value. The thicker or denser the insulation is the more it resists the flow of heat. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation and the higher the level of comfort in your home.
Question:
My home is air-conditioned, should I also insulate it?
Answer:

Question:
Is glasswool safe?
Answer:
Yes. All insulation used by Access Insulation are made from product that ensures low dust emittance once installed, making them suitable for allergy sufferers. In addition, it is made form up to 80% recycled glass so it will not burn. It does not conduct electricity.
Question:
Do your skylights contain lead?
Answer:
No. We only use extremely high quality skylights that are lead free.
